Code of Practice
Sales professionals have a responsibility to their employers, their customers, their colleagues, the sales profession and the public. As a member of the Sales Institute of Ireland , you are required to recognise these responsibilities and abide by the Sales Institute Code of Practice in your day to day business. All members of the Sales Institute are answerable to the National Council of the Sales Institute of Ireland and it will be the Councils's decision if there is a breach of the code of practice.
Professional Conduct
A member shall act with integrity and not engage in any activity which is likely to corrupt or discredit the profession.
Professional Reputation
A member shall not knowingly injure the professional reputation or practice of another member.
Misleading Information
A member shall at all times act honestly and in such a manner that suppliers or customers are not misled. He/she will not knowingly supply false or misleading Information.
Commitments to Company
A member is expected to strive to attain and apply a high level of competence in their work and to make a positive contribution to their company’s profitability and reputation.
Commitments to Colleagues
A member shall do all he/she can to promote the many benefits which professional selling and sales management can bring his/her company and do all he/she can to understand the work of others in the company and the techniques and skills they employ.
Responsibility to Customers
A member is expected to act at all times in a manner which recognises that he/she is a representative of his/her company and thus reflects the company’s corporate image and credibility. A member must recognise customers’ needs and objectives and will assist customers in creating business solutions. Members should strive to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Responsibility to Professional Body
A member is expected to accord his/her professional body the same degree of integritywhich he/she accords his/her own company and the profession in general.
Confidential Information
A member shall not disclose or make use of information given or obtained in confidence from his/her company, suppliers, or customers, for personal gain or otherwise, without express prior consent.
Other Relevant Codes of Practice
Sales Institute members must be aware of and comply with other Codes of Practice relevant to their industry/sector. The Council of the Sales Institute of Ireland will always accept relevant Codes of Practice as a minimum level to be expected of members of the Institute unless it has determined to the contrary and informed members of its decision.
Enforcement of the Code
The acceptance of this Code of Practice is mandatory for all members of the Sales Institute. If any member is found to be in breach of this code of practice then that member shall be expelled from membership of the Institute. All members have a duty to assist the institute in implementing the Code and the Institute will support any member in doing so.
Misuse of the Code
Unfair and irresponsible use of the Code of Practice by members or others to damage the professional practice of members or member organisations shall be deemed in breach of the Code. The Council of the Sales Institute will investigate suspected breaches of the Code and will recommend appropriate disciplinary action. (Articles of Association–Article 3 (iv)). The Council can propose the termination of a membership to a general meeting or can expel a member.
All members of the Sales Institute of Ireland are expected to comply with the above Code of Practice.
