EMC's Journey to the Cloud

Ian Fitzgerald, Senior Manager - EMEA Private Cloud Infrastructure and Data Centre Operations, EMC

Ian Fitzgerald has worked with EMC for eleven years and leads EMC's journey to the Private Cloud in EMEA. Ian manages the EMEA Private Cloud Infrastructure Group, and has global responsibility for the delivery of Managed Storage and Remote Sites Services. Prior to joining EMC, Ian worked in the IT Department of An Post – the first to do so as part of their Graduate Program, having qualified with a B. Comm. Degree and Higher Diploma in Computer Science in UCC.

Ian will relay the story of EMC IT’s ongoing Journey to the Private Cloud – how they accelerated the journey using virtualisation and optimisation of EMC’s Data Centres, and how this has provided the basis for delivering IT as a Service (ITaaS) to EMC’s 50,000 internal users. Ian will look at the benefits achieved in terms of cost and agility, and also discuss the impact of Private Cloud and ITaaS on the IT organization’s structure and the changing roles of its people.

Francis Magann is a senior Customer Solution Architect with Fujitsu in Ireland. As a solutions architect, Francis is currently engaged with several Fujitsu customer and account teams providing enterprise architecture, consulting and solutions. With over 15 years experience in the IT industry, Francis comes with strong industry background and hands on experience of delivering technology solutions that drive value for customers. Francis is a key part of UK Fujitsu UK and Ireland’s Cloud Computing team.

It is undeniable Cloud is a significant growth area that can provide solutions to the reality of increasing demand on IT and reducing IT budgets. But is Cloud a silver bullet? In this presentation Francis will discuss the various types of Cloud Services available today, the pro’s and con’s of each and the common pitfalls associated with Cloud services. This is a practical guide to Cloud allowing those selling Cloud to understand, in the customer’s language, the opportunity and challenge associated with this area.
