Store of the future
Technology and the always-on connected customer is fast influencing consumer shopping patterns and behaviours. But what will this mean for the store of the future?
Certainly, the continued advancements in mobile technology will continue to change and improve the shopping experience pre-store, in-store and post-visit. But what might that look like?
Picture the scene: The new buyer journey may begin with a customer being sent special offers based on their proximity to your store or even a competitor store. On entering the store the customer will sign/register into the store via a mobile phone tap. This mobile registration might trigger store navigation maps, quickly find guides, special offers based on previous shopping baskets, and coupons added via digital etc. The customer might add products added to digital shopping baskets and purchases may be validated and paid for digitally.
But what about range? Will the store or supermarket of the future be a large hypermarket or will everything other fresh food, meat and poultry go online? Will customers collect pre-ordered ambient goods based on validating click and collect system?
So we have painted a picture of what the experts say the future store might look like. The question how much of this picture is science fiction and for the bits that are not when can we expect to see these changes happening?
